How to Make an Herbal Syrup

Syrups are commonly used for children and are especially known for being soothing to the throat. They are basically infusions or decoctions that are preserved with honey or unrefined sugar.

Start by heating your infusion or decoction in a saucepan (unless of course it’s already hot). Then add your honey or unrefined sugar, stirring constantly until your sweetener is completely dissolved into your infusion or decoction.

General Info

2 Cups (500 ml) of your chosen infusion or decoction to about 1 pound (500 g) of honey or unrefined sugar.

Take 1-2 teaspoons (5-10 ml) 3 times daily

Allow your syrup to cool and then store in clean amber or blue glass bottles.

TIP: You will want to seal these with corks rather than caps as syrups often ferment, causing a capped bottle to explode.
